(Re)Focus: An Introduction to Milo Rau and the Comparative Lens
Abstract
This introduction to the Documenta special edition “Milo Rau – Comparative Lenses” looks at Swiss-German theater-director Milo Rau’s career in context. From his early days a cultural critic at the Swiss daily Die Neue Zürcher Zeitung through the founding of the production company the International Institute of Political Murder to his work as artistic director, “(Re)Focus: An Introduction to on Milo Rau and the Comparative Lens” considers the time and place in which Rau began his theater practice and the many inspirations and parallels present throughout his directorial career. Contrasting the theater-maker’s own heroic self-portrait, this cumulation of over a decade of research situates Rau and his artistic output within shifts in Western Europe’s cultural landscape.
